Hello all,

My computer wouldnt start up this morning after shutting it down last night. Ive tried all 4 sticks of ram one at a time in the different slots and I keep getting POST beep errors and then it cycles on/off every few seconds.

If I have one stick of Ram in slot 1 I get continuous short beeps (manual says this is a power problem) If I put one stick in any of the other 3 slots I get a continuous long beep (manual says this is DRAM problem).

Something similiar happened a few weeks ago, but it eventually started working after I took the whole thing apart and put it back together. Once it booted I bumped up my RAM V+ in BIOS to match the RAMs specs (2.1V for Ballistics) and after a week of smooth operation I added in the 2G Crucial and bumped it to 2.2V (recommended).

Last night while gaming I noticed some graphical errors, so I decided to turn the computer off overnight and then it didnt start this morning.

Any idea what could be wrong? I have the mobo/cpu/ram/gpu hooked up out of the box now and it still isnt working - so I assume its not a short. I get proper voltages from the PSU and all the 12V fans work when you power up (until it shuts off 4s later). Ive checked all my seatings and connections and just cant for the life of me figure out whats wrong. Could all 4 sticks of memory possibly be bad?

Thanks for any help,

E

then I'd say you probably took a power surge of some sort. get a multimeter out and manually test the PSU's voltages. post the results from that. then if they check out, the motherboard is gone. if not, then get a new PSU.

I tested all the PSU voltages when this happened last month and they were fine, and I just tested one of the +12V today and it was spot on (didnt have time to really get into it while at work) but I'll go through them all tomorrow.

The case fans and CPU fans both start in the few seconds the computer comes on. I was going to contact Gigabyte, but I think thier support (at least online) is down until next week due to the Chinese New Year.

If it is a faulty Mobo, would it make sense that the problem was at least temporarily resolved over the last few weeks?

THanks for the help,
E
