Hi all,

I have a gigabyte p35-ds3l with a corsair hx620. I was running a sapphire x1950xt for the past few years and decided to upgrade to an Powercolor 4850.

I swapped the cards and the system booted into vista 32. The resolution was low, so I started an install of the latest catalyst drivers again (they were already installed since my old card was an ati). I wasn't watching that closely, but after about a minute the screens went blank and stayed blank for several minutes. At this point I shut down the system.

Now, when I turn it on I am getting one long, two short beeps which means video error with the 4850.

I reset the bios. Same beeps.

I swapped the x1950 back in and the system boots fine again.

I have the latest mb bios installed.

Are there some bios settings I should be messing with to troubleshoot? What else can I try? I'm having a hard time believing the card died after I installed it..

There is one odd thing to note. About two weeks ago I shutdown my system. When I turned it back on I got these same beeps (with the x1950). What I did was remove one of my RAM sticks which I new was iffy. This solved the problem then. At this point, I have the system stripped down to one 1gb stick (not the problematic one) and I have moved it to various slots. I just mention this because the beep was exactly the same even though the mem was at fault.

I'm really frustrated right now so any help is really appreciated!! Thanks.

The ltest drivers for the 1950 are not that same as the drivers for the 4850. You need to uninstall the old drivers and run drive cleaner to ensure the drivers are completly removed. Do all of this in safe mode. Then you can install the latest drivers for the 4850.

Thanks. The system won't even get past POST at this point though, so the windows drivers can't be the problem.
