post-dating a check for a wedding gift

Simple scenario...

going to a wedding Saturday, I don't get paid til Thursday. Is it ok to post-date the check for Thursday?

as long as you know postdating a check does nothing, most banks will try to cash it regardless.

I don't see why not. More than likely they won't deposit the check until they get back from the honeymoon. Regardless, cashing checks/going through gifts isn't the first thing on newlyweds' minds.

This is partly why I asked. A lot of people I know who got married, went through the checks/money etc and had someone deposit it for them, so they had it to use on the honeymoon if needed. Since the people getting married have lived together for awhile, I think this is what they may do as well. They don't need to buy much, I think they'll use the funds pretty soon.

All my bills fall in the first half of the month. Timing is the problem, cash flow is not a concern.

it is proper to give a wedding gift to the couple in the first year of matrimony. nothing says it is the day of or else. just wait.
