Yes they work and are handy when trying to diagnose a motherboard problem. But you can get the same result for less with a speaker connected to the motherboard and a listing of the beep codes.

All you really need its this $15 kit and you have a speaker you can connect to any motherboard and the switches and indicators to play around with any motherboard outside of a case.
