POST beeps/4 pin connector/use a 2 wire speaker?

I have a motherboard with a 4 pin connector for a pc speaker. Alas, I don't have a pc speaker. Can a regular 2 wire speaker be used? If so, which of the pins should I be using?
signal pin
vcc pin
ground pin
NC pin
Trying to hear if motherboard gives me any error beeps.

Hi, A few years ago all motherboards and speakers had 4 pin speaker connectors. The two outside pins are used for the speaker. The speaker had a 4 pin connector with the wires going to the two ends. Hope this helps, Jim
