So I was thinking about Bioshock, which is sort of post apoc, and that got me thinking about what I'd like to see in a post apoc FPS. I think a game set in a sci-fi (Starcraft-y) universe would be pretty fun. As the player you are part of one of the many races that was taken over, and obviously you want your planet (galaxy?) back.

What would you like to see, if this interests you?

A story driven game with the same quality / quantity of dialog, character interaction / development as PlaneScape: Torment or Baldurs Gate 2. The FPS aspect / combat system of Deus Ex that relies on a mixture of standard FPS eye hand coordination and pseudo RPG like stats. A story as good as PlaneScape: Torment that actively involves the character.

Set in the world of Fallout.

Something based loosely on War of the Worlds. Epic battles between humans/army and the huge robots, cities getting destroyed, expansive environments (from urban cities to countryside and forests) for gameplay, up to 4 player co-op.

Snake pliskin in Escape from new york FPS. Then the sequal would be escape from L.A. It would have to be done in an engine capable of rendering lots of people, you cant have an escape from new york or L.A game without all the random messed up lunatics around the place. Max payne 1 is a good game to take ideas from for this, same bleak setting.

Not on my part, no. I was thinking more like what a game like that would be if Valve made it. Like Half-Life 2, but WAY more extreme.

All good ideas. That's like the perfect shooter for me. The STALKER city, Pripyat, was a great setting IMO. The Liberty Island and Park levels of the original DE were also cool. More of that is perfect. I want desolation, I want creepiness, I want scavenging, I want ruthlessness, I want atmosphere in general.... Jesus, that sounds like Darfur or something. I want this in my gaming, not in real life.....I hope they don't screw up Fallout 3.

Max Payne = best protagonist ever. Severely depressed, addicted to painkillers, talks in deadpan & high-drama metaphors...it's a wonder why he hasn't stuck a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger already. I like that about a video-game hero. He's a badass but not a 250lb minigun-toting, wisecracking, lollipop-in-mouth tank. And the best part is he does NOT wear a helmet or some kind of protective suit that takes powerups or generates shields.

I really liked the last few levels of HL2 (Follow Freeman) with the Strider battles that start at street-level and end on the rooftops as the environment (and your support team) start crumbling around you. I'd like the setting to be on good-ol Earth, not more than a few decades into the future - space-settings tend to feel a little too industrial (or mechanical) after a point. Efforts to make it feel more organic and alive typically look too derivative.

Maybe we can ditch some contrivances - genetic mutation, Earth leader that (shockingly) turns out to be a traitor/sellout, dumb romantic angle with a foxy badass hottie that you have to rescue from the enemy halfway through the final level, hero with a serious JC-complex etc.

How about a setting right out of Nostradamus (or 1984): decades of nuclear war has resulted in a world with two large factions - The West and EurAsia. The two Superpowers are constantly at war in a neutral territory (Africa?) for control of natural resources. Our hero rises from this neutral territory (most likely breaks out of a slave-labor diamond mine) and tries to make it to 'The Promised Land' - EurAsia - that he has heard so many nice things about. No aliens, no genetic engineering and no mutant armies - this is a world a bit like 'Children of Men' where ruthless autocracies are duking it out for seemingly no valid reason.

You have plenty of rebel armies (with vested interests) that dream of hijacking a coupla warheads and ending 'The War'; you have secret scientists that are trying to build a secret utopian society under the radar; you have a hero that hasn't quite made up his mind - align with the rebels and rain so many nuclear missles upon the enemy that they blot out the sky? Liberate his countrymen? Appoint himself dictator of the New World? Make an escape to this secret utopian heaven that has gone undetected for so long and perhaps work as a farmer?

I'd play that. Humans are better equipped to end the world as we know it than any alien race. :D All the grandiose of the Second World War - only this time, only this time with extra propaganda and rogue nukes.

Something with zombies and large-breasted, scantily clad women. And guns, lots of guns. Something like 28 Days Later meets Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

How about the galaxy having different planets that you go to, with each being different? Such as an ice planet, or fire. Two tried and true cliches, but are they overdone?

that sounds sci-fi, not exactly post apocalyptic

It'd be both, sci-fi post apocalyptic. The dominating race consumed the whole galaxy.

I would rather have a more realistic (lol) post apoc game. The world is in shambles because of nuclear war and of course there are just a few outposts left on earth. You have 2 remaining factions fighting for power while at the same time, mutated monsters/humans are attacking everything. Keep in mind this takes place maybe just 10 years in the future. So technology isn't super high-tech. No lasers/time machines etc. To me, that sounds interesting.

Yes this isnt that realistic but hell, it's more interesting.

Bioshock is cool, but it was played out in a private society which went haywire thanks to power struggles and funky genetic enhancements... :)

I have high hopes that Fallout 3 should fit the post-apoc FPS bill... :)

Left Behind. After being raptured you descend from heaven and shoot people with bible lasers and they either accept the lord Jesus Christ or catch fire for eternity. Rated E for everyone.

post-apoc FPS...hellgate kinda tried that out...i havent tried it yet though...

What about a termintor FPS :) post-apoc fits that well

Or what about a game based after WWII but instead of the war ending it turned into a nuclear war that destoryed most of the earth and a govt is trying to take over the entire world in the future and u r the only man that can stop it in this post-WWII/apoc FPS :D so kinda like a COD style game in half life mod...I kinda got that type of idea from C&C Red alert when time is changed during the war...

just a thought

I think the Hellgate London environment would really still be fresh and I think they failed to capture it in the respect I was hoping for. I'd like a more interactive environment.

For instance, if you give me a torn down version of London with zombies filling the streets, don't make my only destination to walk directly down the street from point a to point b.

yeah like a half-life esq type thing would be nice...or i heard like cysis has sort of a choice aspect...maybe u can go underground to face 1 big monster...fight ur way across a strett or use puzzles to go on the roof top...something inventive like that would be great

I would like something like Cyborg (film) to paint the setting of the world and have cyberpunk/tankgirl/western type locations and characters.

Out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in making a Source mod with this kind of setting? Shoot me a PM if so :)
