I RECOMMEND NOT BUYING ANY ELECTRONICS from small electronics stores in nyc. i have had many experiences with stores and they always try to shaft you. if you dont shop around online, you're gonna end up gettin screwed.
Another note. NEVER go to stores along touristy areas such as 42nd st times square. i was waiting for my friend there one day, and decided to take a look at the digital cameras. when i walked in, the guy was like "how can i help you?"
me: "id like to take a look at your digital cameras."
him: "ok, do you have money?"
me: "im interested in buying a camera, do you think i have money?"
him: "how much do you have?"
me: "why do you wanna know?"
him: "so i can show you cameras based on how much money you have."
me: "da fu*k!!??!?"
him: "can you show me your wallet?"
me: "hahahahahaha, how bout i show you my taser gun?"
him: "no wallet, no sale."
me: "fine, just be lucky i didnt shoot your a$$"
thats when i left. he sorta pissed me off, so i saw a nearby cop and told him what happened...ok i exaggerated a bit. i said that the sales rep was trying to steal my wallet and was practicing illegal sales tactics. haha, thats when he called 3 of his cop buddies and went to the store. i just watched from a distance as the manager tried to explain himself. hahahaha
here is my advice if u want to buy electronics. GO TO CHINATOWN. Canal St. in particular. Asian people are a lot more friendly and honest than that jewish man. if u wanna have some fun, its on 47th and broadway, right across from the tkts stand. but canal st is the way to go. ive scored many cheap items from there. for example...
walkmans (when they were still alive). i got the sony walkman with LCD remote control and lithium battery for $100 when it was selling in J&R for $200.
TI-83, TI85, TI89 graphing calculator. i bought many of these for my friends when we were taking calculus in high school. got em for $75, 80, and $90 respectively about 5 years ago. Staples was selling each of these for over $100.
my 27" Panasonic PIP TV. paid $250 for it.
tape recorders, batteries, blenders, toaster ovens, air conditioners, all got em there. i recently bought the kodak rechargeable NiMh batter kit (4AA batteries and a charger) for $15 when BestBuy was selling for $30. the batteries alone made up for all that.
my $.02
