Possibly hot for people left holding CitySpree certificates: Restaurant.com purchases Cityspree

This may be a hot deal for those of us (like myself) who are
holding CitySpree vouchers that merchants are no longer honoring.
(My experience, in the Boston area, is that in the past month, basically
everyone has stopped honoring them).

Just got notice that Restaurant.com has purchased the assets of
CitySpree. Now, I don't know the financial condition of Restaurant.com,
nor did the email I got provide any details. But at least now maybe
there's some recourse and MAYBE THOSE CITYSPREE CERTS WILL HAVE
SOME VALUE so don't toss them out. If this somehow allows me to
turn my big pile of CitySpree certificates into Something/Anything
(thanks Todd R) then this will be a hot deal.

Well, more like a s--t deal turned lesss s--tty, but that's still
kind of hot in a gross way.

Time to bug Restaurant.com to turn your worthless certs into something
of value...that's what's hot here...

I am pleased to inform you of an exciting recent development
here at Cityspree.com.

Last week Restaurant.com (www.restaurant.com) purchased all
of the online assets of Cityspree.com. We believe that this
acquisition will be advantageous for both of our companies,
the merchants participating in the Cityspree program and
most of all, YOU, the consumer who has been enjoying great
deals to merchants all over the country participating in
the Cityspree program.

Now, in addition to all of the great discounts you have had
access to these past years through Cityspree.com, you will
have access to thousands of more Restaurant offerings
through the Restaurant.com program. Restaurant.com is
working diligently to integrate the content of both
platforms and will be contacting you shortly to share with
you all of the great new developments. If for any reason
you do not wish to be contacted by Restaurant.com please
let us know by replying to this message.

On behalf of the entire team here at Cityspree, I want to
thank you for your patronage and hope you have enjoyed the
content and discounts we have offered you so far. The new
Restaurant.com integration promises to bring you thousands
of new savings opportunities and more options than ever
before! I am confident you will be very pleased with
what's to come....

Sincerely Yours,

Anne Stanton

I've got a bunch for north of Boston, too. Bennigan's in Peabody accepted a GC on Sat. 9/22, but on Sunday we struck out at 4 different nearby restaurants.

Let's hope that restaurant.com is willing to accept the liabilities as well as the assets. I really shouldn't complain, as I used so many of these GCs over the past six months (I bought them all before the one-per-month rule was added to the site and before the shipping charge was instituted) that I still got a good deal even taking the cost of the refused GCs into account.
