Possibly easy question (??) PC won't pull an IP from the Net

I did a reformat the other night on my PC and all went fine. However, I decided to use the onboard LAN instead of the PCI card I've always used. In the past (with the network card) Windows would detect it and configure everything from the get go for net access so this hasn't been an issue.

However, this time after windows setup I installed the LAN driver (as it was not installed automatically). It regonized my DSL DNS but the IP isn't a valid IP. Tried release/renewing, no difference. Can't browse the web, ping anybody, nadda.

Any idea what to do?

Already tried that (and resetting the modem).

I think it is a windows configuration thing... because if Windows sets up my NIC from the get-go its fine... it's only when the NIC drivers get installed *after* the windows setup runs.

What does 'regonized my DSL dns' mean? I can't quite decypher what you meant. And as N4S said, the most likely cause is MAC address locking to your DSL or cable modem. The ISP should be able to reset it.

It shows my DSL ISP under CONNECTION SPECIFIC DNS SUFFIX of IPCONFIG

I'll check into the MAC stuff. Thanks

Thats most likely just hardcoded in your IP settings.
