Possibly a Trivial Question about Speedfan

I swapped drives in my Dell E1705 laptop last weekend and installed a new WD Black 160g 16 meg cache drive. Out of curiosity I checked the temps and SMART readings for the drive using Speedfan. Temps are 36C but the SMART report says the performance is at 90% and the fitness is 97%.

I'm running Vista 32 Business defragged and with all updates, so why would the performance show 90% when there is nothing else I can (or know) to do to raise the score?

Or.. does Speedfan just take a SWAG in the dark at the results?

You're guessing it's a SWAG? It probably is but I wonder what data it uses for the SWAG.

Don't worry too much about the percentage numbers.

For example, my BRAND NEW Hitachi 2 TB HDDs both score precisely 90%/90%.

What matters is if you are seeing reallocated/bad sectors, etc.

Nope - no reallocation or sector problems. Everything else looks good.
