Possibly a stupid question...

I would make it closer to 50% free space if you are using NTFS - it has its own MFT reserved area that takes away from what you and your programs can use.
 
Well, I'd like to install the free copy of Linspire I got (legally - during thier promotion). Dual boot it just for fun. I'm using media center, so I'm hooked into M$.
