Possibly a stupid LCD question

Got my 226BW.

Here is the number from the "secret" menu: m-me22w0baa-1002

Can't find anything to tell me whether that's an S panel or what.

And here's my probably stupid question: Should this thing "shimmer" when I'm scrolling? I mean, it really bugs me when I'm scrolling, especially on the brighter pages.

My CRT I just switched from sure didn't do it.

you will have to unscrew the back part of the display casing and find the manufacturer sticker which is on the back of the lcd itself. it's a lot easier than it sounds I've done it multiple times with different Samsung lcds without ever doing any damage.

Yeah, mine doesn't have the "S" or whatever letter it is in the place that the pics I've seen show it. My rear panel just snaps on. No screws.

More importantly, I'm really wondering about this shimmering that it does when I scroll. Is that normal for an LCD?

Sounds like a driver problem, it's not a typical LCD issue.

When you scroll on some webpages, certain backgrounds cause a "shimmer" type effect. It is normal. However, I think this should only happen on dark grayish backgrounds. Haven't noticed it with white backgrounds at all.

It does it right here....my background on AT is mostly white. The words "streak"...I guess that's ghosting? And the page seems to shimmer when I scroll up and down......it's almost like looking at a CRT that has the refresh rate too low when it does it.

Just doing some more observing here, the "shimmering" effect I see when scrolling seems to be more with colors on the screen. For example, all the text on this thread does it, as does the American Flag Avatar I have...it basically blinks when I scroll.

no you have to take the actual back of the display off not just the cover. read the middle part of this article on how to do it.

No, thanks, not interested in disassembling my new monitor and possibly voiding the warranty. One panel is as good as the next, all the articles have said that you can adjust the non-Sammy panel to where it looks just as good.

I'm more concerned with the shimmering I'm seeing....is this considered normal or not for an LCD?

I've browsed AT forums with three different LCD's, and I do not notice any shimmering or streaking.

Try to reset your LCD to factory defaults, uninstall your video card drivers, reboot, install the latest drivers and reboot. This should hopefully clear any mishap in LCD or video card driver settings. If that fails, maybe there is something wrong with the unit you got.

After doing some searching, I think my problem is motion blurring. Don't see what uninstalling/reinstalling my video drivers would do for that. Unless Nvidia has come out with some new drivers since less than two weeks ago, I have the latest for my 8800GT.
Also have the latest driver for the monitor itself.

I have a 226bw that is a couple weeks old. I see the "shimmering" you are referring too. Honestly, I think it is more a characteristic of LCD's. My LCD's in the past have done it, and any of the LCD's I use at work have this effect. I don't know which "panel" mine has either since it's not on the back of the monitor. I won't be opening mine either. I'm lovin' it and don't really want to know I've got a bad panel or something.

Thanks. I'm thinking that this shimmering or motion blur is more noticeable because the screen is pretty large. Hardly notice it at all on my daughter's el-cheapo 19" LCD. But it is there.

yeah only thing is how are u going to adjust it using the premade color profiles if you don't know what the exact panel is? oh well, to each his own but taking these apart is about the easiest thing I've ever opened up and it's impossible to tell you've done it. I've done it on 3 already.
