A couple weeks ago, my computer decided to die on me. Here's a description of what it was doing...
When i would turn it on, the power supply would run, and it would just barely begin to boot up when the led's would turn off, the boot up process would quit and it would simply be the power supply fan running.

My first thought was that it was a motherboard problem. But i talked to someone who told me that it could very well be that my power supply has gone bad and is no longer giving the juice it needs. So i bought a new power supply and installed it. Now, the computer doesn't even turn on. The power supply, when i push the start button, gives juice for a split second (the lcds come on then turn off). Is this a problem with the new power supply that's fresh out of the box? Is this indicative of another problem? Any help would be appreciated!

Unfortunatly, it could be quite a few things. Time to do some troubleshooting so money isn't wasted on unneccessary parts (well, it's not wasted. I'll say unneccessary SPARE parts lol).

Unhook all drives etc. Just leave cpu (+HSF), ram and vid card installed. See if it will post. The mobo can be left in the case or removed (removing will help eliminate case shorts.)

If it posts, add components one-by-one.

If it doesn't post, take mobo out of case (if not already done). As for the psu, I don't like troubleshooting with brand new parts, I have received too many DOA parts which complicated the h*ll out of troubleshooting-maybe try both psu's.

If no post, test for mobo beeps. Remove one of these : cpu, vid card, ram and see if you get the correct beep code. If I didn't get correct beep codes, I'd suspect mobo or psu.

See if you can find known good-working components to swap in for your existing parts. Very helpful in trouble shooting. Or try your new psu in someone elses rig to confirm it's OK or not

Good Luck.
