Possibly a bad 5900 Ultra?

Hey,

I just recently traded with this guy on this board for a 5900 Ultra. I just wanted to try it out and see how it would work. Well to my dismay, I just received the card today and it's artifacting horribly. I had a Radeon 9600XT in here before. I cleaned the drivers out numerous times, using the manual method and the automatic given by ATI, then I tried turning down the options on the card. For instance, AGP 8x down to 4x, and Sideband Addressing off.. etc..

Did I just get a bad card, or is there something else messing it up?

Thanks,
K-Max

It may have been a flashed FX5900 or lower.. in that case you got jipped, ask for your money back because artifacting usually occurs because of overclocking or overheating.

Well, I am going to talk to him when he gets back. He was very honest and a quick shipper. I don't think it was a flashed fx5900 though, b/c it came retail boxed by BFG. Either he just hadn't tested the card, or I'm doing something wrong...

Ask your trading buddy if he got the card you now have as an RMA through BFG or from an online vendor. Then ask which vendor. At any rate, he should take the card back if its defective. Dont let him try to convince you to RMA it, because that may be what he was counting on. Unless of course you want to RMA it. BFG is awesome for RMA'ing and usually upgrade you if they are out of stock of your particular card.

Yea.. well I traded him a spare 9600XT that I had, b/c he wanted to downgrade his card. He's on vacation until Tuesday, but I'm gonna go ahead and see if BFG will take it back. If they will then I'm gonna do that, b/c I do want the card, but I wanted it to work. Oh well... we'll see..

Thanks,
