I tried upgrading to Win ME when it first came out . . . it froze upon searching / installation for hardware and never got past that point after multiple reboots.
I reformat / repartition the drive I'm installing it on, i.e. clean install. Same error.
I take out my SB Live card, Win ME installs. I put it back in and choose Add New Hardware, same problems. I have 2 other friends who have SB Live cards in their systems. One has Win ME running just fine, the other friend is stuck at the same point with me.
I know these problems are usually system specific, but can anyone shed some light on this problem?

AMD K6-2 500 on a Shuttle (597)
2 sticks of 128meg PC100 10ns SDRAM
12.1gig 5400rpm UDMA 33, 30.7gig 5400rpm UDMA 66
Voodoo 3 w/ 16meg SDRAM, Sound Blaster Live!
