Possible Wii hardware issue

I tried hooking my Wii up to my TV today via Component cables for the first time. When I turned on the Wii there was no red color showing, everything had a blue hue to it. When i unplugged the blue cable, it was black and white. when unplugging the red cable, no difference. Oddly enough when I plugged the blue component cable into the red socket, the red worked, but there was no blue. I figured it must be the cable so I exchanged it for another one, with the same result. I tried the other component on the back of the Tv with no change. I know the TV works since i've used the component connector before.

Another possible related issue is with the screen resolution setting on the Wii. It will not allow me to select 480p. I click on it and nothing happens, I use the up arrow, nothing. I called Nintendo and they said I would have to send it in to a repair center for 16-22 days. But first they are sending out another component cable to test with.

Anyone have similar issues or have any ideas? The TV is a Toshiba 57H82

Are you running the latest firmware? It should be 3.1U. If not, download it or buy/rent/borrow the new Super Mario Galaxy. I believe the new firmware is on the disc.

What component cable are you using? An official Nintendo cable? You are plugging the cable into the component jacks, correct? Toshiba calls them the Colorestream HD jackpacks.

Despite the fact that the cables are red, green and blue, component isnt an RGB signal.

The green cable contains all the black and white color information, and the color information is split amongst the blue and red cables.

It would be absolutely 100% normal for it to be black and white with only the "green" cable connected.

The "red" port on your TV actually works because you saw something when you put the blue cable into it.

Therefore, something is wrong with your "red" cable. Try another cable.

Doesn't sound like a hardware issue to me. A problem with the Wii GPU wouldn't affect an entire color band like that. Test on another TV with a different cable.

I am sure I was using the component cables and not the audio cable. I was not using a Nintendo cable, but I did try another one and had the same issue. I have downloaded the latest firmware available. I will test with a Nintendo cable when I can.

If you had the same issue with another cable, then its most likely that the pin that outputs the signal for the red cable on the wii is broken, and you should have warranty repair.

On the other hand, the chances that a pin on your Wii is faulty are so outrageously low that I cant help but think its something else.

You said you've used the TV's connector before, but have you used it with a different device since you discovered this issue?
