KV-27FV16 is the newest model of the 27 inch TV in WEGA FD Trinitron family. MSRT is $899.00:
http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consume...fdtrinitronwegatm27inch/kv-27fv16_specs.shtml

I bought from GoodGuys: one of the sales rep (he sold me a SONY 53 inch TV a few months ago) told me they got a special deal for $599.00, but you have to purchase at least 3-year-in-house warranty. Since I want the extended waranty anyway, so I just handed my credit card. The total comes $727 (including CA tax). As for the TV, it's the BEST picture I have seen! The 3D Digital combo filter really makes a diffrence. Other features like component video input and enhanced 16:9 features are just important for me since I love DVD movies. Anyway, it fits the bedroom well, and now I seldom go the th living room to watch TV :)

Do you know if they're having any similar deals on the 32" models? (KV32-FS12/FS16/FV16)

No. In fact I have checked with them on FV16 model (32 inch). Due to the demand, they have no intention to lower the price yet. Compare the price, I chose 27 inch.

Actually, I have been looking into this and have found:

jcp.com %15 off with code INET36
choose the "deliver to store" option
When you go to pick it up apply for their credit card and get another 10% off

$699 * .85 = 594 * .9 = $~535, also go through dash.com to get another 3-5% cant remember ends up at about $500

don't you have to pay for it on the jcp web site? I tried going through the order process but it looked like you needed to pay for the item up front, and pick it up at a jcp catalog store.

If you apply for the card at the store, how do they give you the 10% if you've already paid for it on another card?

Just curious... if it works you're getting an $800 TV for $500... although it isn't the FV16 the original poster is talking about, the FS16 is still an awesome set!

I agree with Heifetz that $700 is too much for a 27" TV even though it's the best 27" TV you can buy.

I simply love my $499 27" Toshiba Cinema Series TV.

It was a tough choice choosing Toshiba against SONY, JVC and Panasonic but after reading lots of reviews, Consumer Reports, A/V Internet forums, and the local A/V dealer, everyone agreed to get the Toshiba Cinema Series.

Yes any SONY WEGA will kick some major a$$ but I'd much rather spend more money on a souped up computer than a boob toob, just my two cents.

i got a GE 27" a while back at circuit city for 199.99! plus i got 500.00 more in my pocket than you WEGA buyers!

As a side note remember that the WEGA series TV's have more defective returns than all other TV's just think about it before you slap down the PESO's

ZONK! wrong! for 27"+ sets sony ranks 7 of 15 companies with returns. not the best, but in the middle of the pack. who is the worst? GE! 20% failure rate. that's a pisser. JVC is the best and panasonic close behind (go figure). RCA if i remember right was just below GE. these were from consumer reports.

a friend of mine that works at best buy told me that sony wega's were their #1 returned tv due to defects!

j00 what issue are you lookin at june 1975? Can you honestly tell me that you beleive 100% of CR reports? Example is the car issue at the end of year, they had cars in therer that they listed as great but i have seen lots of them with loads of problems (vw's) then there were others that they listed as bad some of them to my experience had no problems. granted some of their thing that they say are correct some are not and if you read it as a bible you are a fool!

Also i can buy almost 4 ge 27" for the price of 1 wega 27" so even if it does fail (hasen't yet but it has only been 6 mo.) i can rebuy it 3 more times! that would be alot of failing and trust me it wont!

I'd imagine that the reason for high returns/exchanges on the WEGA TVs is because the people who plunk down the cash for a set are very picky about color balance, black level, geometry, distortion, convergence, etc...they're going into the deal knowing that if they're going to get one, they're going to get the best one of the bunch that they can. :)

Plus no lower cost sets incorporate anamorphic squeezing ("16:9 enhanced" mode) and other techy bits that the WEGAs feature.

I mean, why build your own computer when you can buy an eMachines with similar specs and save $300? Right? Right? ;)

Ok you can all stop laughing.

no really stop laughing.

Ok damn it i said stop!

But anyway i just use it for the net and office applications so it is great, for gaming i use the good old Dreamcast and i gotfor free with the sega.net 1.5 yr contract since worldshare started charging and has no unlimited plan and their service sucked, seganet has actually been faster than WS and ATT that i had before that! Not sure how that is possible because i am connectin at same speed but it is faster!

GE TVs are designed to fail...(sad but true) among other issues, in making them so cheap that mounted the tuner on the tube (or something like that) to save the cost of a wire and a mounting bracket. As the TV heats up during use and cools during non-use, the tuner will break off the tube and it will have be repaired. Except that no honest TV repair person will just stick it back on the tube--so they have to rig something up which would a lot more expensive.

This is how GE can make a $288 (or lower) 31" TV. or in your case, a $200 27" TV.

This information was directly from a Best Buy TV tech and I have since had it backed up by others.

It is not meant to rub it in your face or anything--just to alert the public.

BTW the tech said that Best Buy will replace the GE's with better TVs after they fail 3 times under a service contract. (This is because it costs them too much to keep repairing the GE's. Normally if your item fails 3 times under the service contract they give you a new one, but just like you purchased if they carry it. But this TV is so much trouble that they just replace it with a better brand.)

FYI: This person was not trying to sell me a TV...we just got to talking about the GEs.

Wow, thanks nightmare! I have a GE TV that would get used for long periods of time (and the tube probably heated up), and the tuner is broke on it....Now I know how to fix it :D

I was pricing WEGAs this weekend and found the following prices at Best Buy (Huntsville Alabama):

27" WEGA

$599.99 / $699.99

32" WEGA

$999.99 / $1099.99

36" WEGA

$1499.99 / $1599.99

prices are for the FV12 / FV16, delivered.

BTW, if you think the WEGAs have a great picture, you need to look at the new HDTVs - they blow the WEGAs away! The 53" Pioneer was so clear, you'd swear you were watching the event - LIVE!

You guys do know that you can do some haggling on the price at good guys. depends on how good you can talk I guess. I got the kv32fs12 for 900 back when it was 1000. not much, but every dollar helps I guess. dude, that sales person didn't even blink giving me that 100 off. I wonder how much profit they're REALLY making on these things. the last time I did that that guy had to ask the manager for approval and stuff.
