Possible? Uninstall SP2 from WindowsXP...that was installed using a slipstreamed disc?

I have my original CD, but NOTHING will read it. Then I have a Slipstreamed that I burned with SP2 integrated.

I tried making an ISO out of the original with Nero/Alcohol 120/WinRAR, etc, but nothing. Too damaged, and don't know why.

WHY would I want an unpatched version of Windows XP? I want one with no security updates, and I want to spyware the crap out of it. I created a small partition on my lappy to play around with. I have to teach some people how to clean up spyware/viruses, etc. And I'm trying to get the most crippled messed up install EVAR.

I *do* have a Windows XP w/ SP2 slipstreamed. I could install that...but you can only uninstall updates if Windows keeps the original SP information, right? So, being slipstreamed....I'm funked.

Any other ideas? I don't really want to download a version online, I don't know what I'll be getting. I have the disc, here with me.

No it is not possible because when you install Windows XP with SP2 slipstreamed, all the files on the disc with SP2 slipstreamed are up to date and there are no backups of the older versions of the files. When you apply SP2 to an existing XP installation, it creates backup copies of the older file versions already on your system, so you can revert your system back to a previous state.

Of course, nobody could particularly fault you for getting a copy/image from someone else since you do have a valid license for it. If anybody actually has non-SP copies anymore. I have my CD but I'm not uploading an entire ISO anywhere.

If you were to take your original cd to a local pc shop they might be able to copy it. You might also try requesting a copy of a virgin XP, or one with SP1, and they may be able to provide you with a copy using one of their cd's. If you were to visit my shop I'd do it for you.

I was hoping for some magic solution. ugh. But doesn't look like it. I really don't want to download some version online...don't really know what I'll be getting. I'm going to contact MS through my MSDN Subscription from work, and see if they can do anything.

So, based on what your intentions are, supposedly, you did download a copy that just so happen to have some spyware interlaced in it? Isn't that what you wanted, to begin with?

I wouldnt trust partitioning a single drive to keep my production data safe, you really need a seperate physical drive in order to prevent the spyware/viruses from writing to your production partition.

True...good point. I guess at least when I infect it, I'll know what I'm putting on there. And something I know I can at least clean off.

I didn't think it would be a problem of putting them on two seperate partitions. But you are correct. Looking at it, they are both NTFS partitions that the OS can read and have access to. So, good call.

I don't think I'll be able to download an ISO of the original WinXP without either SP's. But I haven't looked that much yet.
