Possible? Two Xbox 360 consoles with one 550 remote. One for games one for multimedia

Is this even possible?

One I have hooked up via component (HD2 on my TV) one I have hooked up HDMI1 on my TV.

I want to hit play game to start the one on HDMI1, and hit Play DVD to start the one on HD2. Can this be done?

I'm wondering if it's even possible to send commands to only one Xbox, as really the remote has no way to differentiate which one is which. At the same token, even if I only have one setup with my Harmony, every time I turn it on, won't it turn both on?

I'm thinking I may have to just set it up for the multimedia one so my wife doesn't get confused, and when I wanna play games I may just have to manually change inputs and turn the other Xbox on, but this really spits in the face of my Harmony remote.


Any suggestions?

Nope, both would be controlled. Why would you have 2 360s connected to the same TV?

You could turn off the media center remote commands on one of the 360s and set 550 to control the other 360 with media center commands but they would both turn on when you use the 360 commands for the other 360. I'm curious why you have 2 360s connected to one computer as well.

Because one is for offline use the other is for Xbox Live.

I didn't think it would work the way I wanted it to. If we had a bigger TV in our bedroom I'd just move the gaming one upstairs but I don't want to play Xbox on a 19" screen.

I'm not quite sure I understand why you would do this instead of using one Xbox for both and then taking the second Xbox and putting it elsewhere. At any rate, no, it won't work.

Well the reasons of why aren't really relevant to the fact that it won't work, it seems. I'll just have to deal with some manual input changes.

The only other way around it might be using HDMI-CEC to use the TV to power on the Xbox automatically, but I am not 100% sure if the Xbox even supports that. The PS3 does but I don't recall seeing it on the Xbox.

One option is to have the Harmony set your tv to the right input and all that jazz, but then manually turn on a 360 yourself with it's respective controller. That could work if you have a controller synced to each 360. It's the only way I can think of to power them on individually.

That is a fantastic idea actually. I never thought about just taking the power up part out of the equation totally, and just used the synced controller. Have the remote turn NEITHER on and just manually turn on via controller.

I still don't understand why you would have two 360s connected to the same TV. You can use 1 to do everything you need and you wouldn't have any problems with controlling it.

Ok well if I need to get specific one is banned from Xbox Live and I only use it for legal backups of games I currently own, and is not connected to Xbox Live in any way. The other Xbox my wife and I use for Netflix and media center extender and etc so that is why I need two. Happy?

That's what I thought, and that makes sense. Yes I am very happy. But there honestly is no way to only be able to control both devices separately with one harmony remote because it's all working through IR.

I have two monitors, both use same remote, i just block the remote's view of one monitor when im trying to change stuff on the other

With a 550, no. With an 890/900, you could bit its still a pita (you can assign different IR flashers to different devices). I had a pioneer dvd changer that I used for cds, and a pioneer dvd play for dvds back in the day. That was a pain with the harmony but I basically did the same thing you did, but eventually just used the hard power on the dvd changer and just turned it on when I needed it.

Well what I ended up doing was covering up the IR on the gaming Xbox 360 with a Wii controller so it doesn't get turned on with the Harmony, with the Netflix Xbox the only being turned on. When I want to play games I'll just move the Wii controller and turn it on with the controller. Not perfect but it works.
