I jus got the All-in-Wonder 9600Pro video card and I connected my cable to it and none of the channels work. Seems like I need the cable box to descramble the signal. But I was wondering if there are any programs out there that can descramble this signal so I dont need to use the cable box with the computer. I took the cable box from my living room and my roommate isnt too pleased about this because he can't watch tv anymore hehehhe.

I know that software descrambling is possible, but I've never looked for a program to do it. A little perseverence with everyone's buddy Google and you'll probably find something. It'd most likely be worth it to search SourceForge as well.

Is there a way to switch the card over to cable, like you have to do to a TV?

Switch the card's input from antenna to cable, I mean.

You don't normally need a box for regular cable TV.

You might, if it's digital cable (although usually the lowest 100 or so channels are non-scrambled analog). Did you try hooking up something that you know works, like a VCR or game console using an RF adapter?

That's a valid point - it's possible whatever program you're using is looking for composite input instead of the RF you're giving it. What software are you using to watch the video? DScaler? VirtualDub?

the ATI TV program should have an option to change the tuner mode in the options. and it pops up automatically the first time you open it.

nope, it doesnt work. I only get a handful of channels out of the 90 channels that are out there and the channels I do get are on the wrong channels, channel 2 is on channel 55, etc. both tuner modes have the same results.

I am using the ATI TV program.

Good question, I would also like to know. I haven't used ATI software for a while but there should be an option to switch to cable and then run auto program to detect channels. A TV wonder I had a few years back was great and picked up more channels then the TV, but no scrabbled premium channels.

Do you have regular cable or digital cable. With regular it should work if you set it up right, for digital you need a descrambler.

I would like to get some software descrambler capable of receiving digital cable.

Well to answer the question in your Topic...............

You can only watch cable without a box if you have BASIC cable. (I hate set top boxes so this is what I have)

Adding Premium channels such as HBO etc. will force you to have a Box.
Having Digital cable will also force you to use a Box.
