I've heard a couple of people claiming that the TaiSol CGK742092 HSF will work fine on a FCPGA P3, but the Taisol site says it's for socket A cpus. Anyone know if it will infact work on FCPGA pentiums (on a slocket even?)

Thanks :)

I'm not 100% sure that it would fit a slotket. IT hangs above and below the socket quite significantly. IT does fit on a cusl2, but I haven't installed it yet.

I put a chrome orb on a flipchip/slocket celery II, with very poor results, but it did fit. It apparently wasn't making good contact with the core beciause it would freeze at the BIOS during boot, no probs after switching back to the Intel HS/F. I tried several times and then gave up.

Ok thanks guys, I figured I might have problems. I guess I'll wait until I upgrade to a thunderbird before getting that particular HSF :)

No, you've got it backwards, Snow Patrol. First you buy that HSF - then you'll just have to upgrade to that T-bird to avoid having wasted money.

hehe, well I'll buy them at the same time. In fact, I'm on the verge of ordering a KT7 raid/1ghz Tbird (guarenteed to 1.15ghz + and a teisol hsf. I'll let ya know ;)

Its super quiet, about as quiet as youre gonna get for a good cooling heatsink. I found it to be really hard to install and remove due to all 3 prongs on both sides being used. I get scared every time i have to take it off that im gonna chip my tbird (which I already did with an alpha, fortunately it still works.)

I put 2 chrome orbs on my P3s with amazing results (better than my old ALpha). You got to squeeze the plate out a bit so that the clips get a better grip. Mine fits real neat. P3700E at 933 runs at 27C idle and 35C at load.

I'm real happy with the big Taisol - repaced a small coolermaster, and now can get 1184, 29c at idle, 43c running RC5 and everything else I can toss at it.

BTW, Mikewarrior, I'm soon to build a friend a similar system, and would like to know, since I can't seem to get another 742, have you another recommendation? Won't be heavily OCed, silence is a plus.

Smaller Taisol?

Thanks.
