I know I'd need a VC that could output 1080p to my LCD TV thru HDMI, but would this old a system be able to handle such a thing? or would I need to update the motherboard, cpu etc?

Just looking to get some use out of an old pc now that my fiance is taking over my core2duo (I built an i7 this past week).

To transform the Dell into a HTPC, I'd...
* Upgrade the PS to a PC Power & Cooling Dell version
* Pop in a solid (not screamer), video card
* Bump the HD up to a 640GB-1TB WD "Black" (32MB cache). Nice for recording & watching shows at the same time.
* Bump the memory up to 2GB (HTPC don't require tons).
* Toss in a good optical drive.
* Upgrade the sound card to something like an Audigy2
* Install a quality video card.
* Run BeyondTV

Bingo! You're ready to rock & roll.

What does your fiancee use the computer for? Maybe she can use the Celeron and you could keep the Core2?

I told her that was an option, but she is just so sick of how slow her Dell is. I was going to just use the dell provided OS image and start over.

She does some photo work, but mostly email and web browsing.
