I'm pretty set on a celica GT, I have to save up for the down but that puts me at about the year model end which works fine for me cause the factory might offer more incentives.

Let's say I want a specific car, color, and option set. Can I go the dealer, request this car and still pay invoice? I don't need the car right away, I can wait for the dealer to get factory allocation.

I want a black on black celica GT, no power nothing, no spoiler and stick. I've been to several dealers and none have anything like this. I don't really care to pay over 1k in options I don't need. A spoiler isn't worth 500 dollars to me and power windows/locks on a two door car isn't worth 800 to me. Looking at 16k invoice for the car I want. :)

Basically I want a specific car for as cheap as possible.

Go to the dealer, ignore the sharks and talk to the fleet manager. He can special order the car you want the way you want it. You can dicker over price with him just like you would with a scumbag salesperson.

EDIT: Or, find a dealership that has an online configurator and go that route. At least you will be able to know what their asking price is.

1. go about two weeks into the month
2. tell them you want it buy the end of the month
3. repeat steps 1 & 2 at about three dealerships
4. haggle til one of them caves
5. pick up your car at the end of the month, thats when they are trying to hit their quota

I dont know about ordering one, but if you can find one on a lot that you like you can get a pretty good deal. When i got my 2003 celica gt, they had on the lot exactly what i was looking for and i got it for about $500 below invoice. That being said though, i think it is pretty hard to find one without all of the power windows/locks. Good luck.

wow, sounds like you got a really good deal. Yeah I figure the celica is kind of a slow seller these days with all the competition in the sport compact segment so I can probably get a good deal.

when I bought my cougar I used the method that I mentioned above. I got it for 1200 below invoice with a free upgrade to the sport package (v6, spoiler, bigger wheels, and leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter)...be a d!ck...dont be afraid...dont forget, you are the one spending money, and they need every car moved that they possibly can

1.2K below invoice? How much was the cost of the car? Man makes me think the invoice price is almost as meaningless as sticker. :D

at the end of the month, it is meaningless...I dont remember the exact cost of what I was supposed to get..I just kept beating up on the dealers and lying about what the others had said...finally one guy got so pissed off at me that he just said, "look, I am spending more time on this deal than its worth...lets write the thing up now, I will have your car on Tuesday, and both of us will be better off"

I bought my 330ci for 2k below invoice!!! I did my homework, and knew that BMWNA was giving "trunk money" to dealers for their remaining cars....

Shouldn't be a problem, just bring along a print out of what their costs are & be firm. I've ordered one vehicle & paid less than invoice, but it was a Chevy.

More than likely, they'll be able to locate one somewhere for you @ another dealership & do a swap or something.

They'll prob want a deposit.

You're biggest advantage is it'll be something they (the dealership) won't have to tie money up in for long @ all, ie: a quick sale.

You'll be buyin' a Prelude after I'm through with you.

PS: I never did pay you for that ram and I do have another stick of 256, it might or might not be 100% stable tho.

Not likely but it's still possible.

Take your time, buy at the end of the month, be prepared to walk out, and best of all play dealers against each other ("well RossMAN Toyota was going to offer me this for $......"), etc.

matching up features, the GTS actually ends up being only 2k more than the GT.

My dad saw the celica gt brochure on the table and he's like, is this what you want? I'm like yeah. He glances through it and then says, 140 hp isn't really enough. :D

Ya know, before I keep telling to buy a Honda, maybe I should go test drive a Celica and see what its like. So until I do that, no more Toyota bashing. (tho it was you who reminded me that they had to lower the redline on the GT-S motor....)

I keep hearing all these people talking getting vehicles below invoice, however, based on the financed amount they really didn't.

Trying to shoot for invoice is about as good as you can usually do (they always want to keep their incentives/holdbacks/etc which is fair).

At year model end, if will be impossible to factory order the car for that current year and you will be competing with others that want a next year model....however they can sometimes search other dealers for the exact model...however that stripped I doubt it and being you are looking to have them make no money I doubt they'd do it. By ordering car below cost for you, it takes up one of their allocated vehicles...it's doubtful they will want to do that either for a loss.

Usually fleet manager only deals in group purchases, the sales manager though would be a good choice. The way I'd guarantee that is to find out ahead of time of who it is and ask for him...saying a guy you talked to whereever told you to talk to him 'for your best deal, he is a good guy'. Set it up like that and tell him what you want and how much.

I don't know the market on the Celica GT, however if it is depressed as others have said he'd be willing to deal with those in stock.

Also with Toyota's especially in the SouthEast you have to deal with Jim Moran that sets the price he wants for just about everything including his own pricing for the same factory options.

I just checked out the Celica GT invoice, $16176 totally stripped...if you want to be at $16k that is going to be hard.

As much as I like toyota, i'd rather have the RSX-S

or a used 2001 Prelude Type SH.

The Celica seems a bit to girly for me.

If you already know exactly what you want, then skip the dealer altogether and go through a car buying service.

Example

Dealers are a total pain in the ass. Yes, you can work a good deal out of the right salesperson, but the long waits, games, and bullsh!t that they put you through are unacceptable to me. Waiting 4-6 hours in a dealership while some lying, incompetent, and pathetic excuse for a salesperson (and I work in sales) wastes my time is something that I will no longer do. Low-cost car buying services offer a no-haggle low price (usually near invoice depending on the popularity of the car -- CarsDirect is selling the Celica you want for only $50 over). You tell them what you want over the phone, fill out a credit app by fax or online, they get it, you pick it up and sign the papers. I bought my last car through AAA's car buying service, got it well-optioned for better than $500 under invoice, and the ENTIRE process took less than an hour of my time.

If you have a job, an acceptable debt-to-income ratio, and good credit, then putting up a downpayment is completely unnecessary, especially if you are paying under MSRP, and I actually advise against it. This also protects you from being overcharged by the dealer. Then, in order to avoid negative equity, get "gap" covergae from your insurance company (very cheap), keep the car in good and well-maintained condition, and keep the car for at least 3 years. Put the money that you would have otherwise used for a down payment in a savings account and don't spend it!

Good luck.

edit: I can't believe that power windows and door locks aren't standard... I didn't know that those were any option on ANY car anymore...
