Possible to schedule my home server to email its "real" IP address?

I often use remote desktop to work on my home server when I'm travelling. Unfortunately, I don't have a static IP so my address changes every so often -- usually at inopportune times.

Is there a way to periodically have my server email me the current external IP address? Or any other way I can check remotely?

Check out services like no-ip.com that give you a static domain name for a dynamic ip. There's a few good free DNS services out there that'll help you out.

dyndns works great, unless you happen to have a router. Some routers support Dyndns

If you just want to email your external IP address to an External Mail address there are programs that would do it without subscribing to any additional service.

Otherwise, you need a DNS Service.

Both methods are described here, http://www.ezlan.net/myip.html
