Possible to run an 8800GT and a 9800GT in SLI?

You would need to flash one to match the other. The Nvidia driver uses the model string to determine if it should allow the SLI settings to be available.

do a forum search for detailed answers as a few ppl have asked this already. but as the poster above said, u just need to flash em both to the same bios and sli will work. Google it for firsthand experiences. Cheers.

It's not the easiest thing to do, but it can be done (BIOS flash as per the responses above). There is a decent market for 8800GTs, so it might be easier to sell the card for ~$75 and buy a 9800GT for ~$85 and then SLI them for little or no net cost. Just an idea.

A 9800GT SLI combo is pretty much better than any sub $150 cards right now...

You could get very good performance from a GTX 260 or ATI 4870, but unless the OP uses 1900x1200 or higher resolution, the SLI is a better choice.

Agreed, I only upgraded from my 8800GT SLI pair because I got a 24-inch LCD and was starting to hit framebuffer limitations with the 512MB cards at that resolution in a few games.
