Possible to run a defrag in dos mode from floppy?

I've had NT boxes get errors of not being able to find the kernal, was told that it was because of the partition size. (Most HD are 40 gig and NT only sees like 8 gig) So I was wondering if there was a way to run a defrag on the box while only still in DOS mode because NT won't boot when it's not able to find the kernal. Thanks for any help!

1. Not highly technical - try OS
2. No, DOS disks can't read NTFS.
3. I don't think defrag would help you there.
