I have this xvid video and i'd like to rip some audio from it for a presentation... i tried virtual dub but it doesn't seem to recognize xvid/vorb vid/audio type... am i doing something wrong? Or is there another software package that can do this? thanks.

What's the error you get with VirtualDub? I'd think that it should be able to, assuming you have the right codec. Google for 'Ogg vorbis acm codec' (you may just have a DirectShow filter for ogg which VirtualDub can't use)

The error i get is "Cannot detect file type of <filename>"

I just installed that oggs vorbis acm codec and that didn't help either :(

Do i have to change a setting for that codec to take effect or something?

ffdshow perhaps? It can decode all kinds of things, and I think it's pretty friendly with Virtualdub.

Also maybe look at nanoDub or Virtualdubmod.

Or even just download the demo of Goldwave - it's a good audio editor - and have it open the video file. It might be able to access the audio, and you can clip the part(s) you want right there and save them to WAV, MP3, FLAC, or whatever else.

You need VirtualDubMod to do it. Open the file, go to streams, the select the audio and hit "demux". Should work.

Yeah, I use VirtualDubMod. There are a few methods shown here (scroll to bottom for next -particularly VDM).
