friend of mine is having an issue:

Joe: this is my new sn, someone fscked with my old...changed the password or some sh!t...so just informing you of my new sn
Joe: i was on it this afternoon right
Joe: then out of nowhere i got kicked
Joe: i also had a virus which i just got rid of
Joe: so im thinking that mighta caused it
Joe: but i doubt it
Joe: is there anyway to find out what someone changed my password to...
Joe: i made up an email adress when i created the name
Joe: so that wont work

Anybody know 'alternate' ways of retrieving AIM passwords?

If anybody thinks they can, I'll PM you his screen name

I would like to know this too. I have a really old AIM name that AOL will not give me the PW for. Maybe just brute force it?

Well, your friend is fscked up.

I'm guessing it is this virus...the one posted about recently

not sure if it changes your password, but I know another friend of mine got it, and even after she said she signed off, she was on all night and all day according to my buddy list; sending that spam link every 5-10 minutes

I'm guessing it does get your login details

That's what I thought, but I'm guessing if somebody used a method to steal your password in the first place (brute force maybe?), then i'm sure somehow it's possible to "steal" it back...I just have no idea how.

That reminds me of my friends who got their AIM fscked up. They clicked on an url and sudden that virus began to send urls to every person from their buddy lists. I received IM's from them and denied to click on it.

It was some virus that was found in Windows folder. Not sure if you are talking about this kind of virus.
