Is it possible to put together an intel mobo, 512k ram, and proc for 300 bucks that would be a quality system?

2.4C - $120 (or a new 2.8C for $170), P4P800 DLX - $69

And New: 2x 256MB Buffalo sticks - $80

its certainly possible, but not necessarily likely (it would hafta be a killer deal, so keep your eyes open). You might want to check www.slickdeals.net from time to time. that being said, dont just expect everybody on the forums to do all the work for you, do a little research yourself. Then again, it happens all the time
