Possible to play XBox360 games on PC?

I did some googling, and didn't find anything promising, but most links were years old. Is it possible to play Xbox360 games on Windows (or PlayStation or Wii...)? I'd really like to buy and play Madden '11, but while I'll spend ~$50 for the title, I am certainly not going to buy a $300 console for just one game. Any established emulators out there? EA Sports stopped making the Madden series for PC in 2007 and it's pretty frustrating. Thoughts?

I haven't heard of any 360 emulators out there, and I really doubt it will happen any time soon.

No, you need to buy a console to play it or use the last PC version of Madden (Madden 08) and use some of the community rosters, mods, etc.

EA originally claimed that they were taking a one-year break in the PC version of Madden, but it has been 2 years and there is no sign of a PC Madden. If you want to play Madden or, for that matter, any sports game, you should probably get a console. The Xbox arcade is $199.

Well, they released a PS2 version of Madden 10. I'm fairly sure there are some working PS2 emulators out there, so in theory that'd be a possibility.

Though, the graphics would look like ass and it seems like a lot of trouble to go through for an inferior version of the game frankly.

You could find an older or used model of X360 in the $100-150 region. Not such a big investment. Besides, if you have any interest in non-FPS action games beyond Madden, you'll find worthwhile exclusives on the X360. Whatever I play, I am adamant about playing the best available version (usually meaning PC). I have a dedicated and current-enough gaming PC, and the console sits beside it plugged into the same display(s), but I still play the X360 a lot because the games are that good.

Could you tell me more about community rosters and mods? Can I update the '08 game to play with 2010 rosters and team/player ratings? That would be pretty much as good, as gameplay of the new version isn't a big deal to me.

xbox 360 is pretty regularly on sale somewhere for $175. I got mine for $85 but that deal is over.

Just check deal sites, Anand has one you know.

btw, I'm a long time pc gamer, but now that I have an xbox I would say it's worth $150.

It will, just not for a while.

I have to say I'm a long time Xboxer who made the transition to PC, and I'm never going back to Console. I'm not into paying $60/ year to play online thank you! :)

Yes, mods like this exist where they update the rosters, uniforms, draft classes, stadiums, playbooks, etc. This will get you started:

Sweet, thanks, that's just what I'll do.

I'll find out soon enough on my own, but for kicks, how do you guys think Madden '08 run on an AMD Phenom II x2 @3.2Ghz and onboard Radeon HD 4250? Will that suffice, or will I need to step up into a low-end discrete card?

My initial gut feeling is that it will be fine. I'd try it first and if it isn't up to snuff, upgrade your card. I don't think the graphics engine for Madden PC has had any really significant updates since Madden 2005.

If you really cared that much about one game, you could have had an xbox for $~80-90 back when the non-slims went on clearance.

I got one and haven't regret it

no, i mean never. microsoft has a great deal of commitment to its proprietary platform, and i'm sure the first thing they decided was to prohibit it's use on another of its platforms. sure, the underlaying technologies are very similar, but until you can spoof hardware drm, and conceal the spoofing, the answer is no.

It's called an emulator dude, legal or not it will happen. It's happened with every console up to the current gen, it will happen eventually. I bet if we were talking about this back in 2001 you'd be saying "PS2 emulation will NEVER happen" but it did. Sure, the only stable emulation possible is from the N64 on back, but it is possible.

FYI they also have a madden 10 mod for madden 08 as me and my buddy play madden 08 with updated rosters all the time...some of the rosters also include the legacy teams which extends the value 10 fold imo

You generally need a platform that's around 10x more powerful than the system being emulated, and that's with straightforward hardware. With multicore/chip processors things become a lot more complicated, which is why Sega Saturn emulation never really took off. I doubt current gen consoles will ever be emulated, especially not the PS3. While just about anything is possible, it has to be worth the effort. And usually emulators are worked on by individuals or small teams, without funding, in their spare time.

This game relies more on CPU than GPU (I have madden 08 PC). The CPU is def up to snuff. The GPU, while onboard, should be able to play it on atleast medium settings. My Thinkpad T61 (Core2 T7500 2.2ghz 4mbL2 and Intel X3100 which the GPU is a few orders of magnitude slower) could play the game on low, 60fps constant at 1680x1050. Turning up the settings made it not run so well.

Thanks for the info. The AMD Phenom II @ ~3.5GHz should run circles around a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, and the onboard AMD 4250 is orders of magnitude better than x3100, so I'm hoping to run 1680x1050 max settings initially and later down the road at 1920x1080 max settings.

Gotcha. If I were you though, I would upgrade to a dedicated card if you could. Even if an 8500gt or a 4550, You will be able to max the game.

Those radeon 5550 look nice and would be the sweet spot for light gaming on your computer.

I plan to get a dedicated card eventually, but I'm buying in pieces and it's nice to know I should be able to wait for the right time/deal instead of having to buy right away on need. The thing about video cards, they get outdated so quickly. So I'll probably wait for another Radeon 5550 1GB for $40 to swing around, or even a 65xx card in the spring? In the meantime, I'll get the rest of the pieces together over the next month and be able to enjoy until then!

PS3 GPU= weak (a cut-down GPU from 3-4 generations back)
PS3 Cell < many modern CPUs for most tasks

There just isnt the motivation to emulate a curren-gen system, but a powerful modern computer could certainly do it with good code. We are talking about old hardware that is getting relatively aged now.

For anyone that's played it, is Madden '08 for PC 1-2 players or 1-4 players?
