I recently purchased a barton 2500+ from new egg (arriving thursday) - for reasons mainly due to its stability when overclocked. However, i see that many problems people face when trying to overclock their barton has much to do with what RAM they use; so is it possible to reach 3200+ speeds with Kingston pc2700? or should i upgrade to corsair xms pc3200 (if i buy new ram it's going to be corsair). thanks for the posts guys.

Well i would see if you could get the 2700 ram to run that fast before buying new stuff. Might require more volts and a little slacker timings but it might do it.

Exactly as I have Kingston 2100DDR Value RAM that does 200FSB so it will depend on the chips on the RAM. What's the saying? Try before you buy ;)

Well, my 2500+ is currently running at 182 FSB (2.01ghz) with 2x256mb PC3200 and a stick of 512mb Muskin PC2700. However, my RAM is not holding me back from 200 FSB....it's my Epox 8RDA board. It's a early version and I need to do the VDD mod to get it stable at 200 FSB.

I may have to use conservative timings, but I think my PC2700 will run fine at 200 FSB....if I ever get around to it :)

With my early batches of Samsung PC2700, I can go as high as 215 with loose timings & 2.8v, passing the Memtest (only did it for test purpose & have been running it at 205, 2.6v, 2.5-3-3-11, 24/7 for more than a year).

Im trying to do the exact same thing with the exact same processor. If It ends up working please tell me.

Isnt there a possibility of overheating the Ram and burning hte Chip or is there a safety mechanism built into most modern Mobo's?
