Possible to make folder shared via UPNP refresh instantly?

I just set up my first home network for some relatives that are staying with me; got an Asus OPLAY media player connected to my HDTV, so everybody can watch videos that are on my PC.
The player can link to my network in one of two ways - either using a traditional 'network' option which requires my pc's login and password. The second option is via UNPN which connects directly to my Media Server folders (Video, Pictures, Music) without a login or password.

Since this is a wired network, I have no problem allowing access via UPNP, except that the folders take as long as a day to refresh content, whereas connecting using the 'Network' option with login and password, the folder content is refreshed immediately.

Is this normal when connecting using UPNP? Is there some way to change that, maybe in my router settings?

Thanks in advance!!

I just realized what I had to do - change my UNPN settings in my Netgear router settings. Changed Advertisement Period to "1", and Advertisement Time to Live to "255."

Now content folders refresh instantly🙂

All this is DLNA, right?

I think...honestly am not sure what DLNA is but most current devices use it, right? This is the device that I am using to access my PC media:

The UPNP settings I now have, though they work beautifully, is not going to cause any harm to my network, is it? Everything is hard-wired -- and all my media is kid-friendly, so security is not an issue...
