Possible to make 640X480 useable?

Is it possible in this day and age to make viewing websites and doing typical work at 640X480 feasible? I'm currently running at 640X480 because I'm thinking of getting an old laptop off ebay and it has that resolution. I've been trying to make text smaller etc. but it seems that by default text is simply too large and doesn't provide enough "room" or viewable space on the screen, not allowing for much room for information.. Any ideas?
 
Basically you are going to need 800 X 600 if you are going to surf the web for the most part... I don't think 640 X 480 cuts it anymore.
 
Heh, I just found out that opera can scale web pages to practically any resolution! 😛 This is good news I'd say for the old laptop I plan to buy, seems opera does a pretty good job of resizing everything to fit the 640X480 resolution..
