I have a copy of Win Xp Pro which I was given free by Dell and as far as I know, it has never been installed on another computer. I read the terms of the EULA and I don't recall about it saying that it HAD to be installed on a Dell, just that it needed to be activated by MS after 30 days. Now I'm not a very attentive reader and I only skimed through the EULA but I would like to know the opinions of people more knowledeable than me...

If what you want is opinions on the legality of using it, post its EULA here and let's look at it.

I guess it depends on "why and for what purpose" Dell sent you the copy of xp. I suppose your new machine could be deemed the "original", but I'm sure you will find out at activation time.
