Possible to hack the imac core duo/mac mini duo/solo to run lion 64bit?

I was able to flash my mac pro 4,1 to be a 5,1.

Has anyone seen a hack for the older non-lion (32bit cpu) core duo/solo imac and mac mini?

You'd have to upgrade the cpu ($25 used) to a core2duo so it supports 64bit mode but you'd also need a bios 64bit efi?

Anyone?

Probably not going to be able to due to not having drivers for those processors? If you're thinking of upgrading the CPU, they may be soldered.

I don't think 64-bit EFI is required; that would exclude Macs from late 2006 to roughly mid-2008 IIRC. Although that raises an interesting point, is the 64-bit kernel standard for later machines that can boot it? (my guess is no)

Pretty sure the original mini CPU was socketed as mentioned (don't know about the iMac) and its Intel chipset/GMA950 graphics should be supported out of the box. The late 2006 MacBook is highly similar so in theory, it should be possible.

The original mini and iMac were socketed, the laptops never are.

You need a first-generation Socket M C2D - the later ones don't work.

But then Lion will work fine, although you might have to install to an external or target disk mode on a support computer if the installer does any kind of machine ID check.
