My buddy is having a problem getting his disc to read during the install. He boots from the XP Pro disc and it comes up with the blue screen like the installer is fixing to give you the install menu options, but then freezes up. He tried it a couple different drives, same thing.

My guess was either the drives or the disc, but if he has the same problem with seperate drives that would pretty much make it the disc, no? So yeah, XP Pro, possible for him to call up MS and get a new copy of the disc or send his in for a replacement or something?

Why not use someone elses copy of WinXP with your friend's serial no.? Or simply copy the cd, replace the corrupted files with ones from a working disc and burn a new boot disc? That way your buddy can install winXP with his own serial no.

I told him to make a copy of the disc and try that. Never thought about making a copy of mine and having him try it. I'll do that next.

Perfecly legal and much faster than ordering from MS. Also have him check the drive cables, one system cost me a week long ago do to a pinched drive cable that semi-randomly caused problems.
