I live in Boston and ready to buy a new 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero sedan. Its @ 27k miles and another 15 months on the bumper to bumper. I am using a local GM dealership to buy it, not sabb directly. They offer extended bumper to bumper warranties. I'd be interested in adding perhaps just two more years to the bumper-bumper but not sure I'll like the cost.

Anyone know if its possible to buy a two year additional bumper-bumper warranty like Saabs original bumper-bumper from a third party AFTER I pay for my aero this week? I can only see paying maybe $2k for the additional warranty.

Not sure, but I have to imagine no, not if you're buying the car from a GM dealership.

When I went through Audi, they offered a CPO (certified pre owned) warranty, that is pretty much the same as factory, with a $50 deduct.

Also watch your warranty, they can be pretty picky where they can be used, and how they can be used.

You should avoid 3rd party policies and get the GM extended warranty, which you can buy at any time while the original warranty is still in effect:
Vehicle service contracts may be purchased at any time while the manufacturer's warranty is still in effect.

GM Protection Plan

When we bought our used GM car, we transferred the previous owner's GMPP "Major Guard coverage" to us. It was awesome! Zero deductible. Right before the warranty expired, I brought the car to the dealer and had every small thing repaired for free. Warning: These policies can only be purchased through a dealer, so you do have to negotiate the price 😡. You can even shop different dealers for a good price.

Saab is no longer owned by GM, so getting a GMPP vs another brand of warranty is meaningless. Yes, you can buy an upgrade warranty after the fact.

My company used to sell aftermarket warranties. We went with an in-house brand that ford had for non-esp dealers. When we bought additional makes we kept this same company, and have had zero issues with them. Ford spun the company off a few years ago but we've still had excellent success with them. In fact, the only time I ever get a complaint about them is when somebody is hell-bent on paying tons of $$$ extra for a GMPP, ESP, Chrsyler service contract, etc etc. When that happens here at chrysler we sell it to them, if it's a used car I can sell the customer an ESP or GMPP as well, but I don't ever recommend it to customers. The key is to get the exclusionary policy instead of listed component coverage. Deductible amount is a complete dice roll, though I typically in the past would get $100 deductibles.
