*****Possible to get a C1 Stepping PIV through Warranty?*****

My 1.8A PIV processor died on me last night for unknown reasons. No, I didn't overclock that CPU because I was running a server on it and I needed stability. I kept the computer fairly cool, with 2 intakes and one outake.

Anways, is it possible that I might get a C1 stepping 1.8A through warranty? My 1.8A is a 'boxed version' or 'retail version'.

Edited for grammar errors.

Well, I did call Intel a few hours ago and they did agree to replace my processor since I was able to convince them to. I just wanted to know if I might get a C1 stepping.
Only complaint from me is that it wasn't a toll free number.

it is possible since they are supplying oem companies like dell with them
you have a better chance direct from intel, rather than from a retailer (since i dont think retailers will have them yet, and if they do they will probably look to get rid of "older" ones, the B0 ones)

I have had a replacement cpu from the warranty warehouse in Kentucky and when it arrived it was one of the newest stepping cpu so the chance is good... at the time the stepping was B0 but the packing date was as good as ppl were pulling from newegg and googlegear...

I did a P4 RMA with Intel on October 11th and got a replacement CPU that had a pack date of 10-4-02. Based on my experience I'd say you have a pretty good chance.

Thanks for the input, one last question.
How long does it take usually for you get back your CPU?

It took me in the whole process less then 8 days and that was sending my package priority so figured 2-3 days and them sending it back priority 2-3 days...means about 2 days to process
