I want to add wireless connectivity for my laptop to my existing wired network.
Access points, themselves are costly. I am wondering if I can add an 802.11g wireless router(such as the microsoft MN-820) to my exisiting wired network through a lan port on my exixting router or perhaps on the switch I also have on my network.

Thanks.

As long as the new wireless router has the option to disable the dhcp server. This way it will act as a wap/switch.

Thanks to both of you for your input.

Mimendo's input encouraged me to go buy the wireless unit (MN-820)

JackMDS's link looks like it gives the step-by-step setup.

Thanks again.

Just an update.

I bought the Microsoft Networking Kit MN-820 today. It comes with a Wireless Router and a Notebook Card, both 802.11g for $79.00 at BestBuy.

Turns out it has a built-in option to use it as an Access Point. So, I did get it setup on my network pretty easily. I had my crossover cable ready as per the instructions on Jack's link, but turns out that since the router has the option to use it as an access point, you use a regular cat5 cable.

I just need to spend some time setting up security settigs so drive-bys won't be accessing my data and broadband connection.

Thanks again for the help.
