Possible to check % of graphics memory being used?

Is it at all possible to check how much of the onboard memory on the graphics card is being used? Card in question is a Quadra FX 3800, it has 1GB. We got some CAD applications running a bit slow, everything else checks out. Wondering if there's a bottleneck at the video memory.

GPU-Z will read it for the majority of consumer cards, not sure about that one though.

Thanks! That works well on some of the cards at work but not others. Still quite useful.

another tool is nvidia inspector which, of course, is for nvidia only cards. you might have better luck.
