possible to change the hsf on a dell 8400?

My friend is getting one but he is worried about how loud the Dell is. I'm willing to help him change his hsf if thats actually possible on a Dell...
 
Absolutely, just that it voids Dell's warranty, but it is rather simple. I had a Dell 8250 and that thing was sooo silent. Why you changing it?
 
You get a quality HS (Thermalright, Swiftech) and a quiet fan (SilenX 14dba) (50$) and you are set! Thermalright and Swiftech make both 478 and LGA 775 HS's!
 
every dell i've purchased (many) over trhe years has gotten quieter and quieter....

i agree, the latest models you have a hard time telling they are on..

plus they typically use a single ducted fan to cool the entire cpu/case....change the setup, and you no doubt void the warranty.
