Possible to build a computer for $500

Hey guys.

Is it possible to build a full blown computer(monitor) for $500? I don't really see how, but I've been challenged, and I need help 😛 (for a friend)

Very possible.

It will be good for browsing, watching videos that are at or less than 720p, and playing games that came out around the advent of the DX9 age, if that.

Edit: Oh, and Microsoft Office....but that's to be expected right?

WFN, ...come on. Lets do cheaper than that.

Logitech Cordless Desktop 24.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16823126041

Total: 225.25

Then buy a monitor for 275 bucks. 🙂

My friend wants to know if its possible to get some performance outta his rig if a monitor isn't needed.

So for 500 without any monitor, could you build a semi good gaming rig?

He needs a decent pc, not the cheapest possible.

Yes, your rig would be better at $500.

I edited my previous post to not include a monitor.

well, for a $500 PC with monitor you'd probably want to lop it down to 350 right off the bat to account for the monitor. a decent enough 20-22" can easily be had for $150.

if you go ahead and get some basics out of the way, you can get say, a decent antec case and psu for $80, optical drive and a 500gb hdd for about 75, 4gb of memory for about 40. that leaves about 150 for mobo and proc, which can get something basic but fairly capable like an e5200 and a mobo with integrated video. basically, look at the above e5200 build above but ditch the video card and switch mobos.

if this is just a basic rig for office work or internet that would be plenty. if you want to game, you'd probably need that additional $150 to bump up the processor a little and add a dedicated video card.
