Possible to back up Vista MCE DRM/license info for reinstall?

I want to/need to reinstall Vista on my media center pc.
For some reason it has gotten incredibly unstable.
Is there any way that I can back up the DRM/license information for recordings of Pay-TV shows? E.g. HBO and Encore stuff.

I'm assuming you have a CableCARD system? If so, AFAIK, your premium recorded TV cannot be played back if you reinstall. It sucks.

It's not just the premium channels. Currently, everything recorded with Cablecards on MCE is DRMed, and if you rebuild you will not be able to view any previously recorded shows.

Ah, that's right. I had heard some rumors of the TV Pack allowing burning of non-premium TV to DVD, so I got mixed up.

How 'bout some more exclamation points there, sport? The more you add, the more sense your post makes.

Well, Vista MCE Cable Card edition isn't available to public builds, only OEM builders... Maybe you can get them to send you another copy of the the Cable Card Vista?

There is no separate Cable Card edition. There is only a specific BIOS and separate product key to activate digital TV.

nope - this was with for a non cablecard system (I use HD Homerun for QAM HD channels).
It really sucks. I understand that it is only for one system at a time but there should be some way to back up the DRM.

There's got to be a way to back up the DRM data, no? It doesn't work by magic. I would think that if you could find the where the files were stored you'd be able to copy it over to a new install. Of course I don't know anything about it, I don't have TV :^D

I wasn't aware there was any DRM associated with HDHR recordings...and what is your cableco, I can't believe they don't encrypt premium channels!
