Possible to add a 2nd video card that clones the primary display on the 1st?

Here's my scenario: I have a computer running Windows 7 with an nvidia card running two monitors. This computer also needs to be hooked up to a projector. Since the computer has a second PCI Express slot, is it possible to add a 2nd video card and have it clone the primary monitor from the 1st video card? I played around with this briefly but didn't see an obvious way to do this. Any thoughts or possible solutions?

a) With 2 computers one could remote desktop the other

b) Does the projector have a passthtough output?

c) a splitter: PC -> splitter -> (monitor & projector)

The first option would work, but isn't really what I'm looking for. The projector doesn't have pass through. The main card is a quadro nvs 290 which a single DVI port and with a splitter running both monitors. Looking at splitter cables it seems like they only work in certain circumstances. The previous system was VGA and had a dedicated box to split the signal, could probably use a similar DVI device but it would be nice to be able to use a second video card, and cheaper I suspect.
