As John Gruber pointed out, one advantage is that Amazon can accept payments in more places than Google Checkout.

I actually think that Amazon would have a good shot at doing a better job at it than Google is.

I just still don't understand why Google is letting the market go down the crapper like they are. The apps make the OS....right?

Having 30 different app stores for the platform is terrible. Either Google needs to fix the Android Market and resolve its deficiencies, or you're going to end up with every carrier and merchant trying to produce their own app store. That would be extreme fragmentation of the Android platform.

Frankly though, I'm more amiable to Amazon creating an app store than Verizon.

I would have zero problem with it if Verizon hadn't just launched theirs. What's next after this? A Microsoft Android app store? Even worse would be every carrier trying to launch their own. I bet 75% of the apps I use every day were coded overseas.

In the end there will always be apps like appbrain to help. But I'm still pissed at Google for not doing anything about the sad state of their market.

It's the root of the Android philosophy... The market is free to do with the platform as they wish. I'd rather Google let this happen and have tons of markets than to have them step in and forbid companies from doing this. I'm confident in the long run only the best markets will be around (even if it isn't the official google market).

do you think this has anything to do with Google's announcement that they won't try to stop carriers from putting their crap into Android?

Well one way to look at it is Amazon's Market couldn't be any worse than Google's. Google just need to nuke theirs and totally start from scratch. Android is a pretty good OS, but the Market is one big ass hinderance, if we get a dozen different Market places it'll just make things that much worse.

Vcast appstore
EA appstore
Gameloft Appstore
Amazon Appstore

Uh...this is getting out of hand. This is going to take fragmentation to the next level.

Tech Crunch is saying there'll be an Amazon Market and a new Amazon Android tablet...

lol what? Oh geez.

Another thing to think about is the music industry. Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Sony, they're all gonna have their own music market as well.

The existing app market seems fine to me. What's so bad about it in the first place?
