OK, before we begin, I'll lay down some ground rules (yeah, I know, you guys'll ignore them anyway, but at least I'll try).

1. Please do not get into a big p*ssing match over the merits of StarOffice vs your favorite Office Suite. This note is just for those that would like to purchase the product (including the 460 page instruction manual).

2. Please do not waste time pointing out the OpenOffice is almost the same and is available for free download. This note is just for those that would like to purchase the product (including the 460 page instruction manual).

OK, on to the deal.

CompUSA has StarOffice 6.0 on sale this week for $69.99 minus $20 rebate net $49.99.
Micro Center has StarOffice 6.0 on sale for $49.99 outright.
Follow standard procedures (pick up Micro Center ad, confirm Micro Center has Product in stock, have Micro Center phone number handy, etc). Present Micro Center ad to CompUSA clerk and request Price Match. Buy product from CompUSA (assuming you get price match) for $49.99 + local tax and send in $20 rebate.

Caveat: You have to have a Micro Center close enough to a CompUSA to convince the CompUSA to pricematch. YMMV in any case.

PS: For those of you that have had problems with CompUSA rebates, we feel your pain - we don't need to hear your story again. Let's just say that counting on rebates always carries some risk. On the other hand, if you were going to buy the product amyway, getting it for $50 outright and hopinig for a $20 rebate sure as heck beats buying it for $70 outright and hoping for a $20 rebate.

OK, I will follow your rules not to compare to the worlds favorite office suite, but if I did I would have had a lot to say about how StarOffice sucks really bad and is as unstable as Office 95, an MS is like 3 versions forward from that. Maybe in 8 years I will look at it if Sun still exists LOL.

uhh.. i'm using openoffice (free btw ;)) and it works wonderfully. may not be as fast as office 2k for me.. but hey, it's free.. and it is just as fast as office xp (again, on my system).

i do agree staroffice 5.2 was a POS (altho it was free...), but 6.0 is completely different.

I have to give it to open office because it saved my excel file. The excel file I had would crash microsoft's excel but it worked in MS Excel after I loaded it up in open office and saved it. So now I keep both office suites in my computer at work.

For those who doesn't have Micro Center (like me in Michigan),

Amazon has the same deal.. $69.99 - $20.00 rebate = $49.99

I think there are some coupons going around to.. an extra $5 off? at least no tax or shipping.
