I got the game during the EA sale, ive played a few hours in, and when im in the camp after leaving lotheren theres a man with a quest, i believe it was levi dryden...The quest cannot be completed unless i purchase additional DLC...

I dont have a problem with DLC, but so early in the game? unless im mistaken, but i thought i heard the game was like 20+ hours.

wouldnt it be customary to let me finish the game first?

There was a release day DLC which added a side quest which lasted a couple of hours and added some minor background to the game.

DA:O itself is at least 40 hours, if you are doing more than a straight rush to the end.

Conclusion: Don't worry, you aren't missing out on much/anything. Just continue playing.
