Possible solution to ecc2!

As of 1425 hrs GMT on April 8, 2004:

We have a PROBABLE solution to the ECC2-109 project. The solution has been confirmed by Chris Monico, but has not yet been confirmed by Certicom.

Please note that until Certicom confirms the solution, it remains "probable" and the DP collection will continue. Please do not shut down clients until the solution is confirmed!

I haven't decided yet. The windows only programs will depend on my willingness and motivation to get WINE working. 😉

I have tried wine, and found it wanting. it first hogs ~30 mb of ram just for itself. then, there's the DC program you want to run, which could be alot more ram gone. if that doesn't stop you, (as it didn't me 🙂 ), maybe somebody found a way around it, but, you HAVE to have X running just to get the WINE core running, which isn't fun. I also find that I only get 80%-90% of the performance I get under windows via wine. However:

F@H does have a wonderful linux client, which works very well, and I believe it's as fast, if not faster then the windows cli.
 
D2OL also has a Linux client... we are within a month of having 1st place taken away from us by the Cows 🙁

I've been running SETI and DPAD with WINE on a Linux box. It's helped me to start a VNC session; that way I can run X without any frills and with hardly any memory. 🙂

F@H has a very fast, well behaved, native Linux client. No shmuckin with WINE. 🙂

It will most likely take about a week, as that is how long the verification for ECCP took.
