Possible seagate/windows/norton problems. Help

Posting this for a friend who is having some trouble. "I just installed a new 80 gb Seagate barracuda 7200rpm 8 mb cache. I formatted my old hdd and set it as my slave. I just installed Windows XP Pro on the Seagate. Upon installing I dl'ed a few Windows Updates, and installed Norton Systemworks 2003 Professional. However, when I attempt to load Norton, it will load up for only a few seconds, and then it will simply shut itself down. And now when I try to install new Windows Updates, such as SP1, it will say its extracting files, and then when its about to install the actual update, it just shuts itself down. I have never heard of this happening, and was wondering if there is a solution other than formatting and reinstalling Windows. I never had problems with Windows or the Norton software when it was running on the previous WD 40 gb hd."

You can do one of 2 things. Format and reinstall. Or uninstall all programs except XP. If you are having a problem with one or more programs not playing well together this is the place to start. I personaly have had problems with Norton System Works not playing well with the OS. Try booting into safe mode and see if you have some of the same problems. If you do then I would suspect a virus. I hope this helps. Please keep us informed on you progress.
