I am selling some memory on craigslist and am not going to take any chances. I have heard about so many scams I want to see if this seems legit. Some things just don't add up for me, you be the judge.

First E-Mail from Buyer:

Hello Seller,
My name is sean silver ,i'm from South East england,i'm highly interested in purchasing your 2gb (2x1gb) PQI Power Series PC3200 184pin DDR400 -,so i want you to please get back to me with the present condition, your location and the last price offer you're willing to sell it for me.Your urgent response is needed asap.
....Rgrds...

First reply from myself:

Hello Sean, the memory is in perfect shape. I only used it for a few months in my setup. I am from Sickerville, NJ and am looking for $225 as these sticks retail for $160 each.
Thanks,
Bill

His second e-mail:

Hello
Thanks for your immediate response, actually I have been looking for the item , and when I saw your advert I was hoping you will still have it for sale. Asking price is okay, but presently I am off the shores of Scotland where I work as a contractor overseas. I will have to instruct my colleague in my hometown england to send you a Cashier's Check via courier service, since that is the only means of payment I can offer now due to my present location. Please send me your address, fullname and telephone number so that I can instruct my colleague to send you the check to enable me get it on time. Do not worry about the shipping I will handle it myself. Reply me asap.
Kind regards,

--

The whole offshore thing and cashier's check is what has me concerned. I have heard about many fake cashier's checks and am wondering if I should just stay away.

Thanks,
Bill

i thought cashiers checks were GARUNTEED to be good? Its Money Orders that cause the problems. If you are worried, tell him you wont ship it until the check fully clears.

It's got to be a scam. I have a motorcycle on craigslist and I have received at least a dozen emails asking for "present condition" and "last price". All from different senders. I am not sure what he could do with your Full name address and telephone number, but I wouldn't give it to him if I was you.

Seems like a scam.
"i'm from South East england"
Foreign country, check.
"i'm highly interested in purchasing"
Strong interest, check.
"I am off the shores of Scotland where I work as a contractor overseas."
Whoa, Foreign & he's outta town, double check.
"I will have to instruct my colleague"
Colleague involved in $$ transfer, check.

All that's missing is Nigeria and a money order (which is probably what you'll get instead of a cashier's check).

It's highly suspect at the very least.

Scam. Who the hell says advert? These guys really suck, they try to make themselves sound intelligent.

Just edit your ad and say "NO RESPONSES FROM OUTSIDE THE US WILL BE REPLIED TO"

It's legitimate.... you see this nice Englishman is helping myself and the rest of the Nigerian royal family. He need the memory to help us build webservers and plead our case to the world. If you can help us also to cash this money order for 50,000 dollars... we need US dollars very fast... you can give my corier $500 and you can keep the 50,000 check... it very good...

long live nigeria...

just say you will only accept a cashier's check from a US bank that is local to you (ie. wachovia , bank of america, etc.)

and that you will be cashing it at the bank for cash (not depositing it at your bank) prior to shipping it out

Look at the way his responses are written, it's as if they're form letters with his answers filled in.

"presently I am off the shores of Scotland where I work as a contractor overseas"

Since when is Scotland "overseas" for England?

"I will have to instruct my colleague in my hometown england"

England is a hometown now? Thought it was a country. He was obviously supposed to put in a town/city name there, and messed it up.

"2gb (2x1gb) PQI Power Series PC3200 184pin DDR400 -"

I bet that was the exact title/subject you used in your ad, he just copied and pasted it into his letter, even the little dash at the end there.

Scam, scam, scam. Don't touch foreign buyers, sucks to be them but there's plenty of people in the US to buy your stuff.

Tell him you accept Western Union cash transfers only. Chances are, you won't hear from him again.
